We are proud to be the ONLY Prattville-based general surgeon for your general surgery needs!

WHAT IS GENERAL SURGERY?
General surgery is a surgical specialty that focuses mainly on these anatomical areas:
*esophagus
*gallbladder and bile ducts
*stomach
*the thyroid gland
*small bowel
*hernias (groin/inguinal, hiatal, umbilical, incisional)
*colon
*breast (biopsy, lumpectomy, mastectomy)
*liver
*pancreas
*hemorrhoids
*spleen

HOW ARE THE SURGERIES PERFORMED?
The majority of our surgeries are done laparoscopically (through small holes instead of a large incision). Dr. Mora usually will begin every surgery laparoscopically and move to an open surgery only if there are indications for it during surgery. Having a procedure done laparoscopically improves recovery time greatly. The main surgeries performed by Dr. Mora laparoscopically are:
*Appendectomy (removal of appendix)
*Gallbladder removal
*Hiatal hernia repair
*Colon resection for diverticulitis (swelling/inflammation of an diverticulum in the intestinal wall) or cancer
*Splenectomy (removal of spleen)
*Stomach surgeries
*Weight loss surgery (gastric bypass and lap band)

COLONOSCOPY (LOWER ENDOSCOPY) AND EGD’S (UPPER ENDOSCOPY):
Dr. Mora performs colonoscopies and esophagastrodudenoscopies (known as an “EGD”). During the course of the endoscopy, if He discovers any areas of uncertainty, he may perform a biopsy or if he finds a polyp,he may remove the it (also called a “polypectomy”). This is very helpful for the patient so the patient does not have to undergo a second endoscopy to have the biopsy or polypectomy performed. Upon follow-up after the procedure, Dr. Mora will instruct you on the frequency of when you should have your future endoscopies performed. Our office will put that information into our computers and notify you when it is time for your repeat endoscopy!

SKIN SURGERIES:
Dr. Mora also performs a wide variety of skin-related surgeries ranging from removing suspicious moles, lesions, masses, cysts or tumors to treating major burns. He also treats more complex skin or subcutaneous infections.
